Dr. Mohammad Shehata is a neuroscientist and founder of FiLiCiTi. Trained at Caltech, he sits in the scientific lineage of Nobel Laureate Eric Kandel. His work spans the science of memory, including the discovery of "memory identity," to the neural signatures of human collaboration, where at Caltech he uncovered the correlates and fingerprints of team flow. His research has drawn over a thousand citations and been featured in Scientific American, The Times, and Psychology Today, with collaborations spanning NASA, Google, and Sony CSL. He now builds tools that measure the human side of intelligence and integrate it with AI, giving people and teams a blueprint to be amplified by AI rather than replaced by it.

I am a neuroscientist who has spent years studying the human mind, and years since in the middle of the argument about the machine we built to rival it. I have given the talks, sat in the debates, and heard the same questions every time. Will AI replace us. Will it destroy us. Could it ever be conscious.
You have heard the loud answers. Celebrities and founders line up for it or against it, certain and opposed, and almost none of them tell you why they actually believe what they believe.
That why is what I went looking for, and it is not found from a stage. It is found the way I have always been drawn to see things: from above, and then up close, one window at a time. From every rooftop I have ever climbed, it was never the skyline that held me, it was the windows. Behind each lit one, a life in progress, no two the same.
So I looked through many, and distilled what I found into a cast of characters, each fictional but drawn from real people and real arguments I witnessed. The believer, the frightened, the dismissive, the grieving. Every one carries a point of view, and finally, the reason behind it.
